The United Nations Global Compact offers internship opportunities to recent graduates from all over the world in its New York office. 
The UN Global Compact offers internship opportunities in its New York office. The UN Global Compact pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and other collective action in support of UN goals.
Duties
Depending on their level of experience and training, UN Global Compact interns will:
  • conduct research relating to the topic of corporate citizenship, especially on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption;
  • draft and edit publications, papers and other documents;
  • liaise with Global Compact stakeholders on key corporate citizenship topics;
  • support the organization of meetings and events;
  • assist with outreach activities;
  • handle email and other inquiries;
  • assist in the implementation of the Global Compact’s integrity measures;
  • perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Duration and Period

Internships with the UN Global Compact are available for a duration of three to six months. The timing of internships is flexible. We encourage candidates to apply for the following sessions:
  • Summer / Fall: August to November (with a possible extension to December)
  • Winter / Spring: January to May (with a possible extension to June)
Please note that internships at UN Headquarters are unpaid. Interns must therefore be able to cover their costs of travel, accommodation, as well as living expenses during the internship period.

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme (bachelors or second university degree, or higher) at the time of application and during the internship; or
  • Under some circumstances, applicants may have graduated within less than one year to commence a UN internship.

Young Scientists Programme 2018 for Young Researcher Worldwide - IRDR

Now the 3rd batch has opened up for application. Young researchers are encouraged to apply for IRDR Young Scientists from now.
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) calls for enhanced role of science and technology for evidence based decision-making. It also urges the need for innovation and partnership, which is linked to practise and diverse stakeholders. IRDR, with its mandate for integrated and trans-disciplinary research, would like to promote capacity building of young professionals, and encourage them to undertake innovative and needs based research which makes science-policy and science-practice linkages stronger.

Objectives
Increase awareness among young scientists about Sendai Framework implementation and provide opportunities for further engagement through the Young Scientists Program on DRR.
Collate existing research knowledge on DRR and identify research gaps and priorities in relation to the Sendai Framework Priorities for Action
Identify opportunities to fund continued multi-disciplinary research by young scientists and early career researchers
Provide technical support to promising young researchers in DRR fields
Build and foster strong and dynamic networks among worldwide experts and institutions in DRR fields
Develop, over time, a community of high-quality young professionals that can provide support for policy making decisions related to DRR


Eligibility
To be an IRDR Young Scientist, following are the necessary criteria:
Age: Less than 40 years on the date of application
Nationality: There is no bar on nationality
Affiliation: The candidate needs to be affiliated with an academic program (either master or doctorate) either as a student or as a young faculty.
Research subject: The subject of research needs to be related to disaster risk reduction and its link to broader environment and development issues.
Endorsement: must be endorsed by academic supervisor (for student) or head of the department /graduate school (for the young faculties).
Duration: Minimum 1 year, and maximum 3 years. The applicant can make their choice, and the final decision will be made by IRDR.

Programme benefits
Once selected, as fellow can be an “IRDR Young Scientist” for a period of maximum three years. The fellow will receive the following benefits:
Link to IRDR network of professionals and practitioners
Access to IRDR Scientific Committee (SC) for academic support / advice
Participation in IRDR related training programs (there would be a different selection process for each of the training program)
A certificate for IRDR Young Scientist upon successful completion
Responsibility of IRDR Young Scientists
Contribute to innovative research in the field of disaster risk reduction
Be the ambassador of IRDR in different conferences and/or social media
Develop and contribute to networking of young professionals
Submit a 6-month report of activities in the prescribed format of IRDR
Acknowledge the contribution of IRDR in the academic paper, thesis etc.

There will be a selection process based on the eligibility criteria, and once finally selected by IRDR, the applicant would get a notification. The call for application is twice per year.

The NEF 2018 Africa Energy Innovation Competiton is set to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. Across Africa, the main energy challenge is to rapidly deliver modern energy services to millions of households and businesses using sustainable and affordable energy technologies. This competition challenges early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries to develop a prototype model of a key device/equipment for a social energy enterprise or energy management system using local resources.

Competition Guidelines
Your proposed prototype model submission must not exceed 1-side of an A4 page and should include the following:
Project Title
Your solution (250 words)
Partner Institution or Industry
Expected impact (50 words)
Short abstract (50 words)
Design tools and method (50 words)
Problem Statement (50 words)

Eligibility requirements:
Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate in the competition and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization.
Applications may be submitted by a team of up to three people.
At least 1 member of the team must be from the local research institution or industry.
Teams may be formed across different schools, institutions, companies, countries etc. Individuals or teams may submit multiple applications.

Prizes:
The finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of academics and experienced development professionals from public and private sector institutions. Winners of the competition get the opportunity to:
Pitch their proposed prototype model at the 2018 Nigeria Energy Forum, in Lagos, Nigeria, using a poster and short video.
Benefit from unique networking opportunities with other young leaders as well as some of the most senior decision-makers in government, international development, academia and the private sector.
Attend a range of business development workshops, receive support from a dedicated start-up incubator and a cash prize of up to $3,000 to demonstrate the proposed solution.

L.I.F.E. is an acronym that stands for Life Skills, ICTs, Financial Literacy, and Entrepreneurship. The training program is a capacity building initiative designed to improve the lives of under-served youth in host communities. A baseline study usually precedes the setting up of each L.I.F.E. Training Centre. The program focuses on youth who do not have the financial capacity to acquire relevant ICT, Entrepreneurial and Life skills that can make them compete in the workplace.

We work closely with underserved communities and youth (ages 12 – 28 years), providing the access to web-enabled technologies, digital literacy training, entrepreneurship and life-skills training, online work training, connection to short-term internships, and supporting youth to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

CERN Openlab Summer Students Program for International Students to Switzerland 2018

Are you a B.Sc. or M.Sc. student (who will have completed at least three years of full-time studies at university level by next spring) in Computer Science or Mathematics, Engineering or Physics with a strong computing profile? Would you be interested in working on an advanced IT project for two full months during the summer?  If so, you should apply to the CERN openlab Summer Student Programme!
During two full months corresponding to nine weeks (June-August 2018), the CERN openlab summer students will be given a series of IT lectures (link is external) especially prepared for them by experts at CERN and other institutes. The students also have the opportunity to attend the CERN generic student programme lectures (link is external), if they wish. Visits to the accelerators and experimental areas are part of the programme, as well as visits to external companies. A report on the work project carried out is to be handed in at the end of the stay.
Type: Training
Eligibility: 
  • You must be a Bachelor or Master student in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics (with a strong computing profile)
  • You have completed, by summer 2018, at least three years of full-time studies at university level.
  • You will remain registered as a student during your stay at CERN. If you expect to graduate during summer 2018, you are also eligible to apply.
  • You have not worked at CERN before with any other status (Technical Student, Trainee, User…) for more than 3 months and you have not been a CERN summer student in the past.
  • A good knowledge of English is mandatory; knowledge of French would be an advantage.
Selection: 

  • Once the applications are completed, the selection process begins. Applications are considered by the CERN openlab Summer Student Programme Comittee and by the future supervisors of the students.
  • The results of the selection procedure will be made available to the students by mid-April 2018.
  • Please note that applications may be forwarded to a panel of national experts for evaluation purposes.

Eco-generation would like to announce a call for applications for the 20th Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors Program.
Eco-generation Regional Ambassador is an elite position awarded to the youth aged between 13 and 24 qualified to represent Tunza Eco-generation, an environmental networking platform for children and youth around the world. Eco-generation Regional Ambassador Program provides exceptional experiences with the opportunities to actively plan, to execute or participate in various environmental awareness programs in each region and country.
As a representative to Tunza Eco-generation, Eco-generation Regional Ambassador must embody the spirit and values of Tunza Eco-generation. Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors must take on various roles to promote and raise environmental awareness for each region and country they represent.
Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors would carry the voice of the future generations at an international level. Since new visitors will gain their first impression of Tunza Eco-generation through Eco-generation Ambassadors, they are also expected to be knowledgeable on current environmental issues and on the information about Tunza Eco-generation platform as well.

Application details
1. Eligibility
– All Tunza Eco-generation members aged between 13 and 24 (as of February 18th, 2018) who are enthusiastic to spread news and stories about their local environmental issues at a global level
2. Term
– The 20th Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors (hereinafter referred to as ‘ambassador’) shall be in the position for six (6) months from March 2018 until August 2018.
3. Criteria
– 60% of Application form + 40% of Activity Points out of 100%
– Six (6) month of coverage plan should be stated based on the concrete action plans.
– Any false information on an application form can cause disqualification or cancelation of position even after being selected
– Any unfair practice in gathering activity points can cause disqualification.
*For detailed information on point system, please refer to the Notice [World] Guide for the Activity Point System. Eco-generation team shall strictly disqualify any candidates who have accrued the points in an unfair way.
*Examples of unfair practice in gathering activity points are as below:
– Uploading many pointless short articles with only a few lines long in a short period of time
– Dividing one article into multiple articles just to increase the number of articles
– Putting short & half-hearted comments without actually reading articles
– Secretly putting comments on old articles are regarded as cheating.
4. Duties
4.1. Mandatory duties
– An ‘Ambassador’ must post at least 2(Two) reports a month in regards to the environmental issues taking places in his/her region.
– An ‘Ambassador’ should check the e-mail box and Eco-generation ‘Ambassador’ Forum often so as to promptly respond to Eco-generation team’s notice.
– If there is any change in the personal information such as e-mail, contact number and home address, a revised ‘Consent to Use of Personal Information’ form must be submitted to the Eco-generation team via email ( ecogeneration@samsung.com ) within 1(One) week.
4.2. Optional duties
– An ‘Ambassador’ shall voluntarily plan and execute campaigns and events to raise environmental awareness and to promote TUNZA Eco-generation in the local communities.
– An ‘Ambassador’ shall try to leave comments on other ‘Ambassador’s reports after carefully reading them as often as possible for active idea exchange and for encouraging each other’s efforts and campaigns.
– An ‘Ambassador’ shall join various events including Monthly Events, Essay Competition and etc. of the Tunza Eco-generation website.

5. Benefits
– Improvement of environmental leadership
– Enhancing promotions for one’s organization or environmental awareness programs
– Online mentoring to all Ambassador Reports
– Promotional goods for the environmental awareness campaigns to be planned and executed by an ‘Ambassador’
– Certificate to verify successful completion of the Ambassador’s duties
– Reference letters
– The 3(Three) best ambassador reports will be published on the monthly Tunza Eco-generation Newsletter which is publicly released to the Tunza Eco-generation members.
– Recognition of the「Best Ambassador of the term」shall be given to 1(One) ‘Ambassador’ who shows the most passionate and active environmental activities as well as the participations in various events of Tunza Eco-generation. A certificate and souvenir will be given to the Best Ambassador at the end of the term. The process and final decision on the selection shall be planned and confirmed by Eco-generation team.

6. Completion of ambassador term
– ‘Ambassadors’ who posted minimum 12 valid ambassador reports will be eligible for term completion and the certificate.
– ‘Ambassadors’ who successfully completed their term will get significant advantage in term extension process. (Please check the details at the section 9. Extension of Ambassador Term.)
– If the posted ambassador reports turn out to be not valid due to lack in format, copyright issue and etc., Eco-generation can cancel the term completion even after the issuance of the certificate.
– To reduce the CO2 emission, the certificate will be issued in digital PDF format.

7. Extension of ambassador term
– A current ‘Ambassador’ who successfully completed both mandatory and optional duties will get the privilege of being selected without the screening process.
– In spite of the privilege of screening exemption, the 6 (SIX) months coverage plan and the motivation should be filled up in the Application form Page and submitted within the application deadline. In short, the application form submission is required in the same way but the contents of it won’t effect on the result.
– Age limitation shall not be applied to the current ‘Ambassador’ who completed his or her term successfully.
– A current ‘Ambassador’ who has failed to complete the mandatory duties or misbehaved shall be regarded as a new applicant.
– An ‘Ambassador’ can broaden their region to the continental level upon their request after successfully covering their country 1 (ONE) year straight. However, if the ‘Ambassador’ covers one’s country only during the continental ambassadorship period, his/her coverage will return to the country level in the next term.
– An ‘Ambassador’ can cover only 1 (ONE) country/continent during the ambassador term.
– Examples of improper behaviors which may cause disqualification of term extension include;
∙ Irregular posting of the ambassador reports
∙ Violation on the copyright law
∙ Insincere communication such as not responding Eco-generation’s notice e-mails
∙ Ignoring other ‘Ambassadors’ activities such as not putting comments on their posts
∙ Cancelation of events after receiving Eco-generation’s promotional goods
